I came up with the idea for my story from ideas that I have had in the past already. I have always been interested in the concept of what gives a person true happiness in their life, this comes up a lot when I think about my own life since my dreams so far have been to create for a living whether that be with music or film. I’ve really thought about if it is even a dream worth chasing. Nowadays we have seen every filmmaker, actor and musician complain about the struggles that come with accomplishing your dreams, so it really makes you think about what you really want. The character of Steve wants fame and fortune because lots of us want that kind of support and recognition, but what Steve actually needs is to be truly happy which often is found in love and family. I wanted to make him a musician on the verge of becoming something huge, then give him some superpowers haha. The way he gets his powers is indeed heroic, but with that power he becomes further from his actual self, like many artists in real life. So, I brought the character Mary into the story in order to kind of save Steve… if the reader chooses that path. I thought that a flawed character is better than an innately heroic one because us as people aren’t usually that heroic. I figured it would make him more relatable and cause you to really care about where his life and career was going. I made the decision of the three endings based off what I thought made sense, so he could either be a selfish jerk, he could’ve tried both and realized that both decisions don’t work together, or the reader could choose the best choice in my opinion which is to give up his powers in the name of love. I myself am a hopeless romantic with my own mental health issues when it comes to being happy. So far, the thing that makes me happiest is the woman that I love and the future I could have with her. So, of course I made my “good” ending the one where the hero sacrifices his desire for materialistic things in order to gain a life long love. I always think that’s a touching way to end a story.
